The Dare to Kayak Program was designed by Devon Barker* to provide kids with an exciting alternative to abusing drugs and alcohol - learn to kayak. Since its inception this program has grown into a multi-day clinic that offers training in basic kayak skills, rolling, navigation, safety, and river conservation. These courses bring kids together and help to build confidence and foster a lifelong respect for the river.

About Dare to Kayak

What You Will Learn

Kayak basics, including paddle strokes, wet exits and rolling techniques first in the controlled environment of a pool and later out on the river.

River safety, including the correct way to wear a PFD (personal floatation device), how to float in the water and other river safety skills.

River running, including how to navigate and read the river flow and currents.

Through funding from an Idaho’s Wild River License Plate partnership grant, education is provided to all students on river conservation and fish habitat to build awareness of the importance of our rivers.
